Fate
The Mixtape to My Life - Jake Martinez

Justin tends to be inside his head. Not too many people understand him, and fewer try. He has a few friends who seem to care. This year it looks like that may change. Like everything may change.

Dominic is back and living next door. The past is catching up to both of them as they realize they may have more in common that they thought. If he can just tell Justin the truth, and hang on to a friendship that could turn into more, this may be their year.

Characters that move me, well more than one per book is rare. I found I loved both of this couple as it motivated me to read faster and get to the end. I was pleased that there was romance, charm, and more among the angst. So many surprises and a worthwhile read. Hope we revisit this bunch of friends. I give this a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Challenge
Conventionally Yours - Annabeth Albert

Conrad is in it to win it. He and a few other gamers are given the chance to get to a convention full of players who enjoy the same game. His reasons for wanting to win are his own. The attraction he suddenty feels for another gamer shocks him. Will he be brave and share some of himself?

Alden has always been the one not good enough. Finally he has a chance to prove he is good at something. Something for himself. He puts it all out there for someone who only gives him glimpses of himself. He too, has his reasons to want to win. Can they compromise somehow?

These characters were brilliant in their own right. Both bringing so much to the story it almost blinded me. I loved the friendships gained, and the journey itself. Each of the students seemed to have so much to them. I am eagerly awaiting the next book in this series. I give this a 3/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Kiss To Conquer - Anna B. Doe

Callie has had to push herself to survive. To come here to school, to go forward with her plans, and get on with her life. After great tragedy she intends to be her best self.

Hayden remembers Callie from high school. He remembers wanting her from afar. He remebers her bully attitude. He does not know who she is now. Maybe its time?

Such a sweet and sexy story. I found myself entrenched into the story rather quickly. Not wanting to put down for anything. I loved the friendships that were built. The characters are endearing, charming, and the chemistry is sudden and hot! I loved this story and cannot wait for the next installment in this incredible series! I give this read a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Wicked Secret (Wicked Horse Vegas, #7)Wicked Secret by Sawyer Bennett
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is #8, in the Wicked Horse Vegas series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader understanding, and to avoid spoilers, I recommend reading this series in order.

August is happy being a hedonist. He enjoys women, and sex and is not ashamed of his hobbies. Then a surprise blast from the past blows him away with a visit.

Leighton is someone who knew August in his past. They were supposed to have a future that was ripped away. Can he and Jameson Force Security help when it is lives on the line?

This story had so much to it. It was nice to connect the series that I love to read. I was happy with the references to the other books. The characters felt disconnected to me somehow. I had a hard time placing the story with the people I was reading about. It is still a good read, but not the kind I am used to from this author.

Accidentally Family - Sasha Summers

Felicity has had many hits and they keep on coming. Her kids are her life. She lives in a town where her family gathers around them, but they are needy unto themselves. She wants to stop living in the past and move on.

Graham knows he must learn to live in the now. It is hard when you have a child who cannot seem to forigve you your foibles. With this new attraction to an old friend, can he discover what it means to make a new family?

This story had some great characters. My issue with this book was that they were all presernt and accounted for. The whole town, all the famlies, and it felt more than full it felt like a bucket overflowing. The story itself moved at a fast pace. It was just a struggle to keep up where maybe some of the storylines would have been best in their own book. I give this read a 3/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Fall - Kristen Callihan

This is book #3, in the VIP series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. To avoid spoilers, and to fully understand the series, I recommend reading this series in order.

Jax is stunned from the moment he meets Stella. He does not know why he is so attracted, but he thinks about her all the time. Can he be what she needs to make a future?

Stella is surprised to meet Jax. The attraction is mutual. She becomes his neighbor. They meet up constantly and accidentally and the heat is sparking all over.

This story was more involved and a little dark. I like how realistic it was about addiciton and depression. These are hard subjects to tackle and I felt it was done well. I liked reading about the characters falling. It felt organic, real, and like I was in the room. I enjoyed this read. I give this a 5/5 Kitty's Book Spot!

Someday, Someday - Emma Scott

Max is quickly burning out on his current job, when a co-worker tells him of a job that may be too good to be true. He figures what can it hurt to interview? Then he finds out who is connected to the job.

Silas has been hiding. His father cannot have him be himself, for fear it will ruin the family name. Can he impress him and become the next CEO of the family business?

Sweet story with an excellent way of explaining about love over expectation. Some dark elements, with additiction, and abuse. I loved that the author had such a new way to make us feel it can be discussed. I liked that the characters had a sense of self, and were able to show development. The friendship explored was also a treat to read. I enjoyed this book and give it a 4/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Managed (VIP Book 2) - Kristen Callihan

This is book #2, in the VIP series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For understanding the series, and to avoid spoilers, I recommend reading this series in order.

Sophie meets Gabriel on the airplane to a new job. Only to find out he is basically her new boss. Can she fight the attraction that is thrumming between them?

Gabriel AKA "Scottie" find himself annoyed, and then enchanted by Sophie. She is getting under his skin quickly. Is it even possible to resist at this point?

This book covered a subject we do not often see written so openly. The loneliness that is felt by these characters in their lives is unexpected from an outside point of view, as they are both normally surrounded by others. I liked the fresh approach. I also liked the humor, the heat, and definitely loved the connection between the two main characters. I enjoyed reading this and cannot wait to read the next installment to the great series. I give this read a 5/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Always a Bridesmaid - Cindi Madsen

This is book #2, in the Getting Hitched In Dixie series. While each book in this series in listed as a standalone and can be read that way, I recommend reading them in order. Well worth it if you do.

Violet comes to visit and help her sister. She has crashed and burned recently with the bad breakup she has just experienced. Then she meets Ford, and its like she just has to tell herself she is here to recover temporarily.

Ford never expects one woman to knock him off his feet. Since they have met, he has felt like he always wants to be around her all the time. Is it turning in your man card if you like being around someone so fun and full of life?

This author is a 1click standard for me, I will be honest about that. Not since her Taking Shots series have I stayed up and not put a book down. (I surely would love if she wrote more hockey - whoo!) Anyway, this story was full of rich characters with full backstories. The people in this town are all quirky and interesting to read. I laughed and eagerly turned the pages. Excited to see the next installment! I give this read a 5/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Trouble (Darling Devils, #2)Trouble by Gabrielle G.
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book can be read as a standalone novel. To avoid spoilers, and to fully understand the series, I recommend reading the series in order.

Naomi and Lars have history. Serious chemistry of heat and sexy history. Only the choice for her was about friendship. Since she could have gotten serious about a man who uses her looks as a type. She instead, chose to be his friend, the best of friends.

Lars is all in with his best friend. Until the worst happens. Then they split apart, and that is it. Being in the limelight, having someone to care about who he really is was a real treat. Now, she looks at him with such shame and disgust. Can this be fixed?

I love the friends to lovers trope, I have been pretty vocal about that. I just really did not feel the connection with this story and its MC's. I tried at separate times. I found the story solid, the pace nice and fast, and the chemistry just was not working for me. All around it is still worth the read. Lots of our favorites make an appearance, and I am still eager to read the next installment in the series. The book is still a good read.

HOT
Idol (VIP Book 1) - Kristen Callihan

Libby is seriously sick. The hottest man ever has mangled her front yard. Just gross. He has gotten sick, made her feel bad, and thoroughly disgusted her. How is this possible?

Killian is so glad to be anonymous, knowing it will not last. For the time being his neighbor slash enemy is avoiding him. He cannot stop looking her way. He may have to get to know her better.

This book starts out with such fun angst. There is so much humor, and the laughs keep coming. Until the heat kicks in. Then it is all heat and spark. Between these two, you can feel it lifting off the page and seriously almost burning me as the reader. I was fully impressed. I cannot wait to read the next book in this sexified series. I give this read a 5/5 Kitty's Paws UP!

Jake Michelson plays it safe. All he wants to do is keep a roof over his head and graduate from NYU in a few months. He can count on three things in life: his job at Dinkin’s Donuts, his best friend Marri, and school.

Archer Ferraro plays by his own rules. The one thing he can’t stand is when bad people get away with doing bad things. He’s dedicated his life to righting the wrongs the police can’t or won’t handle.

When Archer accidentally upsets Jake’s life, he vows to make it right and hires him.
Together, Jake and Archer must work on a new case involving stolen jewelry and a womanizer, deal with a lawyer brother and a jailbird father, and stay out of the cops’ way.

Should be easy…right?

Excerpt

“Hey!” Everyone stopped to gawk at the smallish, drunk man with his glasses askew. Jake struggled from my hold and staggered off his stool. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” He took a few steps toward the asshole cowboy. “We’re having a good time. You can’t ruin our fun with your stooopid face.” Jake hauled back and punched him.

“Shit!” I lunged and grabbed Jake around the middle, pulling him away before the cowboy retaliated.

The cowboys surged forward, but a piercing whistle ripped through the air and everyone froze. Titus crooked a finger at one of his friends, a guy as big as himself, and pointed at Jake who was once again asleep in my arms.

The biker smiled, revealing a gold tooth. I returned it with an aborted one of my own. He slid his arm under Jake’s knees, then wiggled his other arm between us. I held his head as the guy lifted Jake like a child. I grabbed Marri’s hand before she could attack, and I hurried after the dude. He entered a door behind the bar and deposited Jake on a sofa.

“Thanks, man,” I said.

“No problem.” He slapped my shoulders and my knees almost buckled.

Breaking glass and shouts came from the bar, and I winced.

A chuckle rumbled in his chest like one their motorcycles kicking on. “Don’t worry. This happens at least once a month.”

“Seriously?”

“Titus doesn’t like homophobes, racists, or conservatives.” He grinned and headed out the door.

Marri and I exchanged glances.

“Are your friends okay?”

“They left. That’s what I was coming to tell you guys.” Marri peeked out at the bar and shut the door fast as glass shattered.

“Shit. Does it lock?”

She pushed the little button in the knob, and I laughed.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Jake has stayed the course and will soon graduate. He is trying to stay on track, and is looking at the goal on the horizon. Then he meets someone who turns his world sideways and upside down.

Archer first comes into Jake's place of business and begs him to sell something unsellable. There are real consequences to this action, for both of them. Then realizing they can help one another, they make a new plan that takes them one step closer to the rest of their lives.

This book is fast paced and literally can go whizzing by. I found I liked the characters lack of steady under their feet as it made for a fun read. Poor guys never know what hit them. From attraction, to change of jobs, to learning to navigate friendships this story has the reader on thier toes just wishing to be in on the action.
