The story of Jake and Mikayla is so strong and yet so addictive. The night they meet the hits at her keep on coming and even though he does not know her well, he is so protective of her and wants her to be safe.
On the night they met, Prom is the main goal as they meet at a restaurant where her boyfriend is cheating on her with her best friend. Right outside the ladies room door - the confrontation is loud and ugly. Jake overhears it and coming out of the men's room suddenly feels like he should pummel the guy who would do such a thing.
Kayla is so grateful to have arms to hold her when it all hits the fan. And after joining him at his prom - he takes her home only to add more tragedy to her life. She finds out her family is dead and she has no where to go and no money.
The Andrews family ends up taking her in and she becomes close to all of them. Closer to Jake than anyone because after Prom night, there is no one else she wishes to trust or hold her. Jake is fierce about her and their relationship and as Kayla heals - its all he can do to not tell her how he feels. He thinks it will shock her and it is much too soon.
I have not seen a stronger, more emotional book in a while and I recommend keeping tissues near by. Great cleansing tears come from this book and reading it is very good! The author knows how to make you laugh, cry, and hang on for dear life! I loved every minute and cannot wait for the next book int he series. What a great group of friends!!
