Q & A with Kitty & Laura Drewry

QUESTIONS:

1. What was the first book you ever fell in love with/couldn't put down?

ON THE BANKS OF PLUM CREEK by Laura Ingalls Wilder. I won it at a friend’s birthday party when I was 7 or 8 and I loved every page of that book and all the other books in the Little House series. There are a lot of different authors I find hard to put down now, and they range from historical romance to horror to YA.

2.  What was it like to live in the Canadian North?  Were you ever snowed in?

It was cold! LOL Oddly enough we were never snowed in, and in fact, they don’t consider it officially cold until it gets under -30 degress Celsius. That’s the magic temperature it has to hit before the schools declare it an “in day” at recess. The coldest I ever saw it was -54 Celsius and I can honestly say I’ll be quite happy to never see cold like that again! LOL

The people up north are amazing – friendly, welcoming and lots of fun, they never hesitated to include new folks into anything. We had a lot of Australian families on our street who’d moved there for work with the diamond mines and while I expected them to be huddled in their houses longing for the heat of back home, they spent more time outside on the snowmobiles than anyone else!

3.  Your books are so wonderfully done and have terrific banter.  Is some of that from your real life?

That’s very sweet – thank you! Sarcasm is a way of life in the Drewry household so yes, some of it filters over into the books. I’m so glad you enjoy that part of them!

4.  I cannot help notice you are a NY Yankees fan.  How did this happen?  Are you into Baseball in general?

I’ve always loved baseball. Back in the day, I was a die-hard Montreal Expos fan but then they did the unthinkable (LOL) and traded Gary Carter to the Mets. I waffled for a lot of years after that until ’96 (I think) when I was watching a Yankees game and there was Joe Torre. He’d just suffered a horrible personal loss and he looked so sad, how could I not cheer for his team? And then I saw Jeter and there was no going back after that.

5.  Do you think you will ever base a character around baseball?  Do you have a favorite player?

Right now I’m writing a character who used to play ball, but I’d love to one day write a character who was still playing. One day. Jeter’s been my favourite player forever. Actually, the entire Core Four were favourites, but Jeter is The Man. There are other players I really like – and not all of them are Yankees! LOL – but I’d be hard pressed to single one out as my favourite now.

6.  Do you listen to music as you write?  Any chance we would ever get a playlist in on of your books?

Music is an absolute must when I write. Each book in the Friends First series had its own playlist and some of those songs were actually incorporated into PLAIN JAYNE because Jayne’s a huge fan of ‘80s music and movies. I don’t have the playlists listed in any of the books but I have some of the music included in the books’ Pinterest boards.
